Project Aims

  • To help CUHK students and staff develop a healthy eating routine and reduce the use of plastic bags when taking away food
  • To promote the use of reusable packing bags and sustainable utensils

Key Challenges
Many students and teaching staff at CUHK are too busy to have regular meals. Some choose to skip a meal, or make do with snacks or instant noodles instead of a proper lunch. Although there are many canteens on the CUHK campus, not many people are willing to spend about 30 minutes to fetch a takeaway meal from the nearest canteen.
Solutions
The project team developed a phone application (app). When a user enters a canteen, the app will show a notification inviting the user to take away some food for their friends nearby. Users can also view their food orders nearby via the app, so that they can take the take-away meals to other users and earn a delivery fee. To promote sustainable awareness and reduce the amount of disposable waste, all the canteens will be required to use reusable utensils.
