Project Aims
- To help University freshmen become familiar with university life to enhance their sense of belonging and quality of learning
- To promote green concepts by introducing a green environment and ecosystem on the campus
Key Challenges
1. Lack of Knowledge of the Campus: The University is a totally new learning environment for freshmen, in terms of teaching facilities and learning models. They may find it difficult to adapt to their new life without help. Although a wide range of orientation activities are organized every year, freshmen get to know the university mainly through trial and error, thus making mistakes, such as getting on the wrong shuttle bus or failing to read important emails.
2. Lack of Understanding of the Green Environment: Owing to lack of campus knowledge, many students know little about its green environment and ecosystem. For example, most Year one students do not know that there is a small garden near Chih Hsing Hall in New Asia College.

Solutions
The project team developed an app that provides freshmen with detailed, up-to-date information about the university, even if they do not join any orientation activities. The app also introduces the green environment and ecosystem on the campus, and provides a virtual guided ecotour to introduce CUHK’s green world.
