Project Aims

  • To promote a green diet and waste reduction in CUHK
  • To enhance students' green knowledge through the fun of gamification

Key Challenges
At the end of every academic year, a large volume of recyclable waste is thrown out by hostel residents. Waste sorting is often ignored by students due to a lack of awareness or incentive. This problem not only affects the environmental hygiene of the hostels but also creates extra work for hostel workers.
Solutions
The acronym EID represents our team's philosophy during the conceptualization of our solution.

E - Enjoyment (Create a game-like atmosphere to add fun and increase productivity)

I - Integration (Integrate environmentally-friendly information on the platform)

D - Digitalization (Provide mobility and efficiency for students 24/7)

With these considerations, the team constructed “Greensleeves”, a model that allows students to earn electronic bonus points and redeem them for gift items. Technologies such as GPS, IoT and QR codes are employed to help users find the nearest recycling bins and water dispensers, thus promoting a sustainable lifestyle can help CUHK become a place of green living.
