A total of 17 CUHK students from various disciplines participated in the I·CARE Community Research Scheme 2019/20 which provided the students with opportunities of community services and research.  Worked in collaboration with NGOs, Christian Concern For The Homeless Association and Concern For Grassroots Livelihood Alliance, the team focused on ‘Grassroots Housing and Community’ and conducted numerous home visits to subdivided apartments’ residents.  The project team studied the causes and impacts of ‘inadequate housing’ and the approaches towards securing ‘grassroots’ rights to housing’ through investigation of the impact of domestic bedbug infestation and through oral history interviews.

The Community Research Scheme, launched by CUHK I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development, aims to deepen students’ understanding of the deprived communities and to foster their curiosity to explore ways of civic participation through small-scale research.  The participants are required to collect and analyse data, carry out research and present findings that become blueprints for community and social reforms.  This initiative addresses the full spectrum of UN Sustainable Development Goals.
