As part of the CUHK Earth Month 2023 programme, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC) and the Department of Geography and Resource Management (GRM) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) are jointly hosting a special seminar on the recent M7.8 and M7.5 earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February 2023. The seminar will explore how the earthquakes occurred and became a devastating incidence, what humanitarian responses are, and how global solidarity, as seen in disaster management, can lead to success in attaining global sustainable development. Joining us at the seminar are Prof TAN Yen Joe (Earth and Environmental Sciences Programme, CUHK), Mr CHAK Kwok Wai (Hong Kong Fire Services Department), Ms Elaine FONG and Ms Lalita GURUNG (Hong Kong Red Cross), and Dr CHIU Hon Chim (moderator; GRM, CUHK).
