In 2023 the University introduced the Energy Conservation Incentive Scheme for Student Hostels (ECIS-SH) with the participation of all CUHK hostel buildings of the Colleges, Postgraduate Halls and I-House. The aim of ECIS-SH is to encourage positive behavioural change among student hostel residents and raise awareness throughout the University of the importance of energy consumption and conservation.

Competition

- The Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office (SRSDO) will organize annual energy conservation competition among all student hostels.
- All student hostel buildings are eligible to join and compete for a variety of awards.
Education

- The student hostels will recruit Student Energy Ambassadors.
- Training in the responsible and smart consumption of energy will be provided to the Ambassadors.
- The Ambassadors will receive funding support from SRSDO to develop and implement publicity, education and engagement projects in their hostels. Please refer to the project funding guidelines for details.
Identification of energy-saving opportunities

- The student hostel management will work with the Estates Management Office to carry out walkthrough inspections to identify opportunities for energy conservation.
- The student hostels may apply for funding support for the implementation of energy-saving measures on their premises.
