Distinguished SDG Lecture – Climate Change: Vulnerability and Adaptation
19 May 2022
05:00pm
Evidence is clear: the world is facing a climate emergency. In 2010 – 2019, average annual global greenhouse gas emissions reached their highest levels in human history. Against this backdrop, the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26) called upon countries to commit to accelerate climate action, forging the Glascow Climate Pact. As the world grapples with keeping 1.5°C within reach, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III’s report gives us a reason to opt for optimism: we have the tools and know-how to halve emissions. By adopting the right policies, putting in place the necessary infrastructure and technology, making far-reaching lifestyle and behaviour changes would enable us to make strides toward SDG 13 – Climate Action.
