Climate and Energy Initiatives<\/span><\/h1>\n

CUHK recognizes climate change as one of the most pressing issues facing society today.\u00a0 The University is committed to cutting its per-capita campus energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.<\/p>\n

CUHK requires every office to appoint an Energy Warden who will work with the Estates Management Office (EMO) to identify potential energy-saving opportunities and also suggest ways to conserve energy.\u00a0 The University’s\u00a0<\/span>Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and its\u00a0<\/span>guidelines<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>provide building users with specific guidelines.<\/p>\n

Since May 2019, the University has joined the\u00a0<\/span>Feed-in Tariff Scheme<\/a>.\u00a0 The HKSAR Government launched the FiT Scheme in 2018 to provide monetary incentives for the public to implement renewable energy installations. \u00a0Under the Scheme, CUHK can sell the power company the energy generated by the solar photovoltaic panels at the rate of HK$2.5\u20134 per unit (kWh).\u00a0 The income generated will offset part of the University’s monthly electricity bill, and the savings can be used to finance the development and implementation of new sustainability initiatives towards carbon neutrality.<\/p>\n

Electricity consumption accounts for over 90% of our GHG emissions.\u00a0 Whilst the growing campus population and new facilities will inevitably increase the demand for electricity in the coming years, CUHK will continue to pursue energy efficiency strategies to meet our energy and GHG reduction targets.\u00a0 Our strategies include:\u00a0<\/p>\n
