Communicating university social responsibility and engaging the community for sustainable development
CUHK seeks to create and disseminate knowledge in order to nurture a new generation of socially responsible sustainability leaders. Through communications and engagement, we challenge the university and wider communities to work together for a sustainable future for all humanity.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is a global platform for mobilizing practical solutions for sustainable development. CUHK, the co-host of the SDSN Hong Kong, is responsible for communicating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and calls upon like-minded institutions and organizations to join forces and advance the 2030 Agenda.
Young people are the leaders of tomorrow who will inherit the world. SDSN Youth engages, empowers and brings young people together to lead the way to a better and lasting world. SDSN Youth Hong Kong and SDSN Hong Kong are working closely to inspire a sustainability-conscious generation which seeks to create a sustainable future for themselves and the generations after them.
Hong Kong’s universities are committed to fostering sustainability excellence through education, research, and knowledge exchange. In 2010, the Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of the eight government-funded universities established the Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC) and signed the Hong Kong Declaration to recognize the higher education sector’s responsibilities for climate change and sustainable development and to serve as a role model for the local community.
Knowledge opens the road to our sustainable future. The SDSN SDG Academy curates free and open educational resources on sustainable development and the SDGs and provides inspiring learning opportunities, irrespective of time and place, for those who would like to equip themselves for a lasting future. The SDG Academy is also supported by an Academic Advisory Committee of distinguished scholars, including Professor Rocky S Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK.
