同屬植物有時不易分辨，白背葉和白楸是好例子，兩種植物均是大戟科本地原生小樹，葉形相似，葉背白色，較仔細看，白背葉背面較白，而白楸葉背白中帶淡啡色，分佈上白背葉較少，逸夫書院路邊見一小株，校園內以白楸較常見，花果期相同。

Species from the same genus are sometimes difficult to differentiate.  This is the case for the White-back Leaf Mallotus and Turn-in-the-Wind.  Both are native trees of the Euphorbiaceae family, with similar leaf shape and a white underside.  When examined in detail however, we see that the former has a whiter underside while the latter carries some light brown on its white underside.  White-back Leaf Mallotus is rather scarcely distributed.  One can be seen on the way to Shaw College.  Turn-in-the-Wind is otherwise more common on campus.  The two plants flower and fruit at the same time.
