廣東人稱為白果，國內廣為種植，一些古樹可達千年以上，除食用之外，為庭園常見栽培樹木，銀杏葉形獨特，似一把小扇，有長柄，有些葉片深兩裂，樹有開雌花的和開雄花的，屬雌雄異株 ，因此並非每樹均見結果。

Known as the 'white fruit' in the Cantonese dialect, Ginkgo is widely cultivated in the mainland.  Some trees can live up to a thousand years.  While its rugby-shaped seeds serve alimentary purposes, Ginkgo is also an ornamental tree with attractive elegant leaves, which bear a unique fan-like shape with a deep split in the middle, and a long thin handle at the extension.  A dioecious species, some trees have female blossoms while others male ones.  No fruit can thus be found on a male Ginkgo.
